American Legion California Boys & Girls State Election and Campaign Rules
- 1. No campaign material may be purchased, posted, or published prior to the filing of nomination paperwork for any office at the American Legion California Boys & Girls State (CBGS) program.
- 2. All campaign materials must be prepared at CBGS.
- 3. Electronic campaigning and communication are permitted; however, it must be limited to the CBGS sanctioned online platform or chat app only.
- 4. No campaign posters or signs shall be hung from or attached to any university building except the Dining Commons (Servery) or within residence halls.
- 5. No material shall be attached or hung on any door, window, or food service area. Only blue tape may be used for attaching signs to any wall. Materials in residence halls may not be applied to plastered walls. No signs may be placed on any floor or sidewalk.
- 6. Candidates for the offices of Governor, Lt. Governor, and Secretary of State must attend the “Meeting of Candidates for Governor, Lt. Governor, and Secretary of State” on Saturday or Sunday afternoon to be eligible to file for any of these offices.
- 7. No candidate may accept a contribution of more than $20.00 (CBGS money) from any contributor or group. Before the polls open for the General Election, candidates for all statewide office (except Senate and Assembly) must file the List of Contributions form containing a list of contributors and the amount of CBGS money donated by each, with the acting Secretary of State (Elections Counselor). Failure to file the List of Contributions form will result in the withholding of the Certification of Election by the acting Secretary of State (Elections Counselor). The List of Contributions form must be filed even if no contributions were received. Take your electronic form to the Election’s Office (Sierra 105) to show proof. ONLY IF YOU PASS THE PRIMARY STATE ELECTION.
- 8. All signatures and names on petitions and other forms must be the same as on the City Roster.
- 9. No citizen may hold more than one elected or appointed office listed in the program guide. They may not resign from one office to run for or be appointed to another office. The experience of holding an office is more important than campaigning.
- 10. Candidates for Party Chair and Party Secretary are ineligible to run for any State offices except Senate or Assembly.
- 11. Candidates for office may not use props during their campaign speeches, must remain behind the podium during speech, and must adhere to time limits established for speeches.
- 12. Because of time constraints, no “third party” or “independent” candidates will be qualified for the Primary or General elections.
- Any official CBGS shirt shall not be defaced in any way.
- 13. Judicial actions must be confined to CBGS citizens. Only CBGS citizens may be subpoenaed as witnesses or be participants in any CBGS judicial action.
